At The Whole Horse Journey, we combine intuition, connection, and intention to create a space where every horse and human receives a grounded, conscious, and truly meaningful experience.
Our Mission
Our mission is to restore the way humans and horses meet.
Through conscious horsemanship, nervous system awareness, and deeply intuitive partnership, we guide people back to presence, connection, and genuine understanding. We help riders, guardians,
and seekers learn to listen—truly listen—to themselves and their horses. We create experiences that soften the body, open the heart, and honour the whole being: horse and human. Everything we do is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and co-regulation. Our mission is to cultivate relationships where horses feel safe, seen, and understood—and where humans rediscover their own grounded centre through the wisdom of the herd.
Our Values
Our values are rooted in compassion, presence, and partnership.
We honour the horse as a sentient being with a voice, a perspective, and a truth worth listening to. Everything we do is guided by mutual respect, conscious communication, and a deep understanding of the nervous system—ours and theirs. We value curiosity over correctness, connection over control, and integrity over image. We believe in creating environments where horses feel safe, supported, and free to express who they are. And we believe in supporting humans to meet their horses with clarity, softness, and authenticity, so that both can grow, learn, and thrive together.
Who We Are
At The Whole Horse Journey, we honour horses as sentient beings with their own voices, needs, emotions, and wisdom. Our work is rooted in presence, respect, and a deeply conscious approach to partnership.
We are Gaylene Diedericks and Nicola Louw — two women equally devoted to helping humans and horses understand one another on a deeper, more authentic level. Together, we bring a blend of intuitive insight, holistic horsemanship, physical understanding, and grounded experience that supports the whole horse and the whole human.
Gaylene Diedericks
Conscious Horsemanship · Animal Communication · Equine Connection · Somatic Herd Work
Gaylene is the intuitive heart of The Whole Horse Journey — gentle, perceptive, emotionally intelligent, and deeply attuned to the inner world of horses.
She connects with horses on a soulful and energetic level, translating what they feel, sense, and need. Her gift lies in helping people truly see their horses — the subtle communication, the emotional patterns, and the deeper truths expressed through energy, behaviour, and presence.
Gaylene teaches conscious horsemanship grounded in awareness, quietness, and relationship. She guides people to slow down, soften, listen, and build partnerships rooted in trust rather than pressure.
With her background in Reiki, intuitive communication, somatic awareness, and connection-based horsemanship, Gaylene supports both horses and humans with warmth, clarity, and deep compassion.
She brings the soulful, energetic, intuitive dimension to the work — helping people experience their horses in a way they’ve often never felt before.
Nicola Louw
Holistic Barefoot Consulting · Biomechanics & Movement Insight · Equestrian Coaching · Intuitive Understanding
Nicola is the grounded, wise, deeply compassionate anchor of the herd. Calm, steady, and incredibly observant, she brings a rich understanding of the horse’s body, biomechanics, posture, movement, and comfort.
She has extensive experience as an equestrian coach and barefoot trimming consultant and has studied fascia release, Masterson Method principles, and Reiki. She does not work as a healer or bodywork practitioner — but she uses the knowledge to understand horses more deeply, to guide her trimming, her coaching, and her awareness of each horse’s physical needs.
Nicola takes her time to listen — not just to the human, but to the horse. She sees the subtle shifts, the compensations, the quiet signals, and the lived story within a horse’s body.
And alongside her scientific and physical understanding, Nicola is also intuitively gifted. She feels into horses with natural empathy, softness, and a calm energetic presence that immediately puts them at ease.
Her approach is holistic, welfare-driven, and centred on what the horse truly needs to thrive.
Together, We Are The Whole Horse Journey
Two different strengths, one shared vision:
To help horses and humans build relationships based on connection, understanding, and mutual trust.
Gaylene brings intuitive communication, energetic awareness, and conscious connection.
Nicola brings physical insight, biomechanical understanding, and grounded, intuitive observation.
Together, you offer a complete, compassionate, ethical approach to working with horses — one that honours the emotional, physical, energetic, and relational aspects of the horse-human partnership.
This is horsemanship rooted in presence.
Relationship instead of pressure.
Understanding rather than control.
Connection above everything.
I would like to recommend The Whole Horse Journey. It offers a truly holistic approach to riding and deepening your connection with your horse. While riding skills are, of course, essential, Nicola Louw is an exceptional teacher who makes everything simple and easy to understand, helping you build both skill and confidence as a rider. She is supported by Gaylene Diedericks who has an incredible ability to interpret what your horse is communicating. When you encounter a roadblock, her insights from the horse’s perspective help you understand and overcome the issue—allowing both you and your horse to move forward together
